Overview - Located approximately 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, 40
miles southeast of Santa Barbara and 337 miles south of San Francisco, the Port
of Hueneme has certain physical characteristics which make it an ideal harbor.
First, there is a deep submarine canyon, Hueneme Canyon, which approaches within
a few hundred feet of the harbor entrance, providing good navigation and minimal
wave and swell action. Secondly, the harbor is provided additional protection
from severe storms by the nearby Channel Islands.
Approaches - Information for mariners is contained in U. S. Coast Pilot
Number 7, Pacific Coast. Navigation aids are indicated on U.S. Charts (NOAA

of the channel entrance is 330 feet. All traffic entering or departing the port
is controlled by the U.S. Navy Control One, and should be hailed on channel
6, followed by Port Hueneme Wharfinger on channel 14.

leaving and shifting within the Port of Hueneme must be piloted by a port pilot
duly licensed and authorized to perform the services of piloting vessels within
the Port of Hueneme. Pilots work channel 65 while entering/departing the Port.
