Overview - Located approximately 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, 40 miles southeast of Santa Barbara and 337 miles south of San Francisco, the Port of Hueneme has certain physical characteristics which make it an ideal harbor. First, there is a deep submarine canyon, Hueneme Canyon, which approaches within a few hundred feet of the harbor entrance, providing good navigation and minimal wave and swell action. Secondly, the harbor is provided additional protection from severe storms by the nearby Channel Islands.

Approaches - Information for mariners is contained in U. S. Coast Pilot Number 7, Pacific Coast. Navigation aids are indicated on U.S. Charts (NOAA Chart Nos. 18720 and 18725) and Light Lists.

Channel - Length of the entrance channel is 2,300 feet. Narrowest width of the channel entrance is 330 feet. All traffic entering or departing the port is controlled by the U.S. Navy Control One, and should be hailed on channel 6, followed by Port Hueneme Wharfinger on channel 14.

Depths - Depth in harbor is 35 feet at MLLW. Bottom is sand and mud. Mean Low Water is +1.5 feet. Height of wharf above MLLW is 14 feet.

Pilotage - All vessels 300 gross registered tons and over entering, leaving and shifting within the Port of Hueneme must be piloted by a port pilot duly licensed and authorized to perform the services of piloting vessels within the Port of Hueneme. Pilots work channel 65 while entering/departing the Port.

Tides - Average rise and fall of tide is about 5.4 feet, extreme tides are – 1.5 and +7.2 feet. The harbor is not affected by tidal streams or current.

South Terminal - One (1) continuous 1,800-linear-foot, deep-draft, concrete piling wharf which provides three (3) 600-foot berths, Berth Numbers 1, 2 and 3.

One (1) 379-linear-foot concrete piling, shallow-draft, wharf (18' MLLW) is at the west end of this terminal adjacent to the entrance channel.

Reefer Shed 1A - 70,735 square feet, 10 truck docks.

Reefer Shed 1B - 63,196 square feet, 14 truck docks. (Reefer sheds operated by NYKCool USA, Inc.)

Reefer Shed 3 – 83,000 square feet of refrigerated space, 552,960 of refrigerated space, 18 truck docks. (Reefer shed operated by Del Monte Fresh Produce NA, Inc.)

North Terminal - One (1) continuous 1,450-linear-foot concrete piling wharf which provides two (2) 700-foot deep-draft berths, Berth Numbers 4 and 5, designed to accommodate RO-RO operations. These berths support the auto terminal operations. Berth 5 is also a heavy-lift berth.

Small Craft Berths - At the east end of Channel "A" are 18 small craft berths, as well as a special mooring facility for the oil spill response corporation "Barge 320" owned by Marine Spill Response Corporation.

Arcturas Station – The Oxnard Harbor District owns ten acres in the city of Oxnard at 5851 Arcturas Avenue that is leased for port related uses.

In addition the District owns 5.04 acres of industrial property located at 5901 Edison in Oxnard currently leased for industrial uses.
