Highlight: Keynote Speaker - Erick Went | MatterLabs

Erick Went | MatterLabs

Erick brings years of entrepreneurship, vision and marketing expertise on board. His never-ending curiosity and a passion for solving problems have kept him at the forefront of business and technology. His love of the environment was apparent from early on. Right out of college at University of California, Santa Barbara, where he majored in physics and mathematics, he founded Eccentric Motors, a pioneering alternative energy company. Eccentric Motors developed numerous technologies from multi-fuel vehicles to hydrogen power plants. Erick is a born entrepreneur, strategist and visionary with a record of success. A Silicon Valley native, he founded Higher Standard Solutions – a Strategic Technology company and led the company to steady profitability starting from the first year and continues to provide solutions to some of the biggest companies in the world. He has since founded, managed and driven countless startups to success.

His years of experience has lead him to create Matter Labs which focuses on projects that globally impact millions through a combination of partnerships and innovation.

 

Highlight: Captain Jeff Chism | Naval Base Ventura County

Captain Jeff Chism

Captain Jeff Chism (incoming Commanding Officer, NBVC) is a native of Tigard, Oregon. He is a 1995 graduate of both Biola University and the University of Southern California where earned a Bachelors of Science in Physical Science and Civil Engineering respectively. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Graziadio School of Business Pepperdine University and Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. In addition, he completed a Federal Executive Fellowship at the Center for a New American Security as a Senior Military Fellow.

Captain Chism earned his commission through the University of California, Los Angeles Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He is a designated a Naval Flight Officer, Prowler Tactics Instructor, and operationally flew in the EA-6B Prowler and the EA-18G Growler.

Captain Chism’s sea duty assignments included the "Black Ravens" of VAQ-135; the "Garudas" of VAQ-134; the Balkans Combined Air Operations Center Electronic Warfare Coordination Cell (EWCC) Vicenza, Italy; and the CENTCOM Combined Theater EWCC at the USAFCENT Combined Air Operations Center, Qatar.

During these tours he deployed aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) in support of Operations DESERT FOX and SOUTHERN WATCH; a combat flying deployment to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey in support of Operation NORTHERN WATCH; two combat flying deployments to Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM; and two individual augmentee deployments first in support of Operations JOINT FORGE and JOINT GUARDIAN and then Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQ FREEDOM, and NEW DAWN.

Ashore, he served with the "Bloodhounds" of VX-30; at Commander, U. S. THIRD FLEET (J7); and with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisitions and Sustainment Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Tactical Warfare Systems.

Captain Chism Commanded the “Zappers” of VAQ-130. During this tour he deployed aboard USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Under his command the squadron earned the 2013 Commander Naval Air Forces Pacific Fleet Battle “E”, 2013 Commander Naval Air Forces Admiral Arthur W. Radford Award, and 2013 Chief of Naval Operations Safety “S”.

Captain Chism's personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (fifteen Strike/Flight awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Air Force Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (three awards) and various campaign and unit awards.
